Who We Are
The Founding Years
The story begins with Harry Gilovitz. In 1927 Harry moved from Israel to Sydney with his family. In 1933 he married Faye, who shared his passion for food and entertaining. After recognizing a need for quality kosher catering in Sydney, they started their catering business in the 1940s, blending Middle Eastern, European, and Asian flavors to offer unique dishes for their clients.
The Growth of Lewis' Continental Kitchen
In 1965, Harry and Faye invited their daughter Judith and her husband Malcolm Lewis to join the catering business. They established "Gilovitz and Lewis Kosher Catering," which became a huge success, focusing on weddings and bar mitzvahs. The next step was opening a retail shop, "Lewis' Continental Kitchen," in Bondi in 1970. The shop gained popularity, attracting numerous customers eager to taste their delicious food.
Continuing the Legacy
Lewis' remains a family business, with Karyn, the daughter of Judith and Malcolm, leading the way and playing a major role in its continued success. As the business enters its fourth generation, Karyn's eldest son Jack has joined the family venture, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the table. The legacy of Harry, Faye, and Malcolm lives on through Lewis' Continental Kitchen. The commitment to quality, innovative cuisine, and warm hospitality remains at the heart of the business, welcoming customers just as Harry and Faye had envisioned.
